Folk Nations – our three-year programme that highlights folk culture across the UK and India – returns this autumn with a tour across India; visiting three locations where artists from our programme will perform. The tour will reunite six artists; fiddler Patsy Reid, singer and clog dancer Hannah James, percussionist James Mackintosh, harpist/singer Georgia Ruth Williams, sarangi player Suhail Yusuf Khan and vocalist Saurav Moni.
In partnership with British Council and English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS), the group first met in a residency workshop in Kolkata to share their folk music traditions and heritage; collaborating and immersing themselves in a week of intense music making. The group represent a delicate weaving of UK and Indian folk that speaks immediately to the cultural heritage of these regions as well as its place in the contemporary music industry. Recent activities have included performances at Celtic Connections in Glasgow, and London’s Alchemy Festival at Southbank Centre. After the success of these events, Folk Nations returns to India for a series of performances in Delhi, Kolkata and Shillong.
