Cairo Calling

This week sees the culmination of a project that started back in 2014 between Rinse FM and the British Council called Cairo Calling. Cairo Calling explores the differences, and similarities, between Cairo’s mahraganat scene and London’s own evolving rap and grime scenes. The launch of a new film this week which illustrates the vibrant mahraganat scene, with key contributions from the likes of Mumdance and Pinch from the UK and Sadat and Figo from Egypt. This will be followed by the release of an album of new music and a 12 hour takeover on Rinse FM this Saturday.

Release of Rinse x 100COPIES: Cairo Calling (Various Artists)

This is a a 10-track compilation featuring music from Islam Chipsy, Amr Haha, Hathoot, Yehia El Tonsy Soska, Andro El Hawy, DJ Mado, El Gezawee & DJ Ismail.

December 9

12-hour Mahragan takeover on Rinse FM (106.8FM + DAB London)
