CartelMTL is a Montreal based conference for new music curators organised in collaboration with the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and co-presented by Le Groupe LeVivier (a 28 members network of Quebec new music producers and presenters), the Quatuor Bozzini (Canada's leading new music string quartet) and the Suoni Per Il Popolo (one of Canada's leading contemporary music festivals which presents improvised music, sound art, avant rock, contemporary classical and many other styles).
CartelMTL's first edition will take place between 12 and 16 June 2014 during the Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival. Besides attending meetings, participants will be able to attend an exciting array of concerts presented by the Suoni Per Il Popolo and Le Groupe LeVivier.
The Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival plays host to The Composer’s Kitchen; an exchange programme providing the opportunity for two UK composers to attend a Canadian edition, and two Canadian composers to attend a UK edition. All four participants attend both phases:
1. a seven-day workshop in Montreal, ending with a public laboratory-concert, and
2. a three-day follow-up masterclass in Huddersfield, UK, to refresh and bring to maturity the work which was developed in the first workshop.
This process closes with a feature concert at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in November 2014.
