The fifth annual Alchemy Festival at London's Southbank Centre will take place from Thursday 15 May 2014 - Monday 26 May 2014 showcasing some of the best music, dance, literature, comedy, fashion, art and design from the UK and South Asia. Set across the vast space of the Southbank Centre, Alchemy is one of London's most vibrant festivals thanks to an enriched free programme of workshops, performances and exhibitions, and sampling wonderful food from the market. It is the best way to discover international masters alongside emerging talent; folk alongside up-and-coming youth culture; the best in South Asian cuisine and the latest fashions from Pakistan and India; consider how skills and ideas travel down generations, across continents and different cultures collaborate.
As part of the British Council's contribution to the festival, artists taking part in our Folk Nations programme will be performing as part of the festival's music programme. The performance features fiddler Patsy Reid, singer and clog dancer Hannah James, percussionist James Mackintosh, harpist/singer Georgia Ruth Williams, sarangi player Suhail Yusuf Khan and vocalist Saurav Moni. These musical collaborations were set up over a week-long residency which took place in February 2013 in Kolkata, and was co-commissioned by the British Council and the English Folk Dance and Song Society.
