SRA Selector graduates in double success

September, 2015 / September, 2015

The Student Radio Association Selector initiative has just completed it's second year and the great news is that both of our graduate winners now have presenting jobs!

Radio X, the new version of Xfm, this week announced its new presenter line up and it includes Jack Saunders AND Ross Buchanan. The station will broadcast nationwide on DAB as well as on FM in London and Manchester, going live on 26th September.

Both Jack and Ross took part in and won the SRA Selector. This involved broadcast training with our production partners Folded Wing, presenting their own version of the show on their student stations and also attending a work placement with Ibero 90.9FM in Mexico City. The scheme is designed to highlight and develop young broadcasting talent whilst promoting the Selector and providing the students with a unique international experience.

Phil Catchpole, Selector Programme Manager said - "We are absolutely delighted for both Jack and Ross and really proud to have been involved in their career development so far. One of the key traits we look for when selecting the students we work with is a hunger and desire to succeed, and both of them have this in abundence. Their success underlines that the SRA Selector scheme is a great opportunity for student broadcasters to develop their skills and make their way in a very competitive environment. Massive thanks to Folded WIng, the Student Radio Association and also Uriel Waizel at Ibero 90.9FM for making this scheme a unique opportunity for UK students."

Jack said - "I've grown up listening to XFM my whole life and it's been part of my dream to present on the station. Now I'm going to be doing it and at the most exciting time in the stations history. I wouldn't even be in this position if it wasn't for the SRA Selector and the experience I gained from that. Radio X is going to be the most exciting station in the UK and I'm a part of it, alongside a hero of mine, Chris Moyles. This doesn't happen in real life!"

Ross said - "XFM was a massive love of mine growing up and it's a dream come true to be asked to present my own shows on my favourite station. Radio X is going to be incredible and I'm so excited to be show neighbours with Jack, who has passed on his wisdoms from his experience in the industry already. The Selector was a huge catalyst in helping me begin my career in radio and winning the SRA Selector fully changed my life. Everything from the trip to Mexico, to the training days right at the beginning - I'm super thankful to the whole team for helping me on my journey to score this incredible opportunity and hope to do everyone proud on 26th!"
