UK indie band Young Knives recently traveled to Russia during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games to perform two shows - a performance at the Morport Live site in Sochi city on 14 February, and the 4th Selector Live party which took place at the Solyanka Club, Moscow on 15 February. Selector Live parties focus on the most exciting up and coming british music selected by the editors of The Selector Radio program produced by the British Council and broadcast from London.
Post-punk revivalists Young Knives initially started out playing in their hometown of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire but a move to Oxford eventually gave them their big break. The band featuring Henry Dartnall (vocals/guitar), Oliver Askew (drums), and Thomas Dartnall (bass) broke into the music industry in Oxford after performing at Truck Festival – an annual independent music festival in Oxfordshire and releasing their debut mini-album.
So far, Young Knives have collaborated with the legendary Andy Gill – a founding member and guitarist for the English rock group, Gang of Four, and played with Hot Hot Heat. All of their six singles have made it into the UK Singles Chart Top 30 and the band has also been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.
British Council Russia is a partner and participant of the Cultural Program during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.
Since April 2013 The Selector has been broadcast in Russia on Megapolis 89.5FM
