CoMA (Contemporary Music-making for All)
CoMA (Contemporary Music-making for All)
Allcomers event at Southampton commenrating the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
CoMA (Contemporary Music-making for All) provides opportunities for amateur musicians of all abilities to take an active part in contemporary music making by means of:
· An extensive programme of commissioning works that are artistically challenging yet technically accessible to musicians of all standards.
· Premieres and re-performances given by a network of contemporary music ensembles established by CoMA.
At the core of the CoMA’s repertoire is an Open Score collection of more than 200 flexibly-scored works suitable for performance by ensembles of very varied instrumentation and size. As a project, Open Score works with leading conservatoires and music colleges with the express purpose of creating a generation of composers who aspire to write high-quality music not only for professional musicians, but also for amateur ensembles.
CoMA ensembles also serve as resource for local composers to try out and develop their work. Whilst the core of this network is based in the UK, CoMA is committed to expanding further afield with ensembles already established in Ireland and the Netherlands. CoMA ensembles have featured in many international events including Bath International Music Festival, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and ISCM New Music Days. CoMA itself organises international projects including an annual Contemporary Music Summer School.
CoMA has extensive experience of establishing self-funding contemporary music ensembles and commissioning challenging yet technically accessible repertoire and has an award winning record of managing major projects that facilitate links between professional and amateur musicians and composers.
