SCOTTISH ENSEMBLE
Creative Learning is at the core of the Scottish Ensemble's activity, forming an integral part of the group's identity. Exciting large and small-scale music projects are created in conjunction with a wide range of partners. The focus of these projects is to bring the inspirational musicians directly to participants in their local environment, nurturing musical skills while also encouraging development in other areas such as confidence, team-building, leadership and creativity.
Underpinning all of our creative learning projects is the importance of string music and developing string performance for future generations. Successful past projects include:
· Musical Hats – a workshops and performances aimed a pre-school children
· Build a gig – working with students at senior secondary and university level to plan and perform a concert
· Wired – a series of composition workshops with secondary school pupils based around the concert series
· Music for Change – a series of workshops based in Polmont Young Offenders Institution collaborating with DJ Alex Smoke
In addition to one off projects the Ensemble delivers annual residencies in Dundee, Inverness, Aberdeen and Perth. These residencies are an opportunity for the musicians of the Ensemble to engage with local communities both on and off the traditional concert platform. Residency activites include workshops and masterclasses youth, school and amateur music making groups, performances in community centres and care homes, tea dances, late night session and flash mobs with local youth orchestras.
Throughout the season the Ensemble provide a number of fun and informative pre and post concert events, compositional workshops inspired by the concert programmes for secondary school pupils and a Young Artist scheme to College level students on the brink of a professional career.
