Credit: Andrew PricePsappha works with children, young people, students and adults, from elementary to advanced level, to support and build composition skills.
7 to 11 year olds: Working with children to equip and inspire them to compose and perform for themselves. Psappha performs a special programme designed to introduce children to new music. Along the way we give tips and pointers to help children identify different textures, sounds, rhythms, moods and effects which they can adapt and use for themselves. The project comes with a rich resources pack.
14 to 18 year olds: Composition Lab: Psappha’s extensive online resource specially devised to support young people’s music composition. Through more than 100 bite-size films we explore each orchestral instrument, guide users through different musical styles and techniques ranging from ragtime to contemporary, and offer a special interactive ‘mix your own’ section. Composition lab also includes short programme notes and composer biographies, and further background information.
Higher Education: Psappha is the Contemporary Ensemble in Residence at The University of Manchester where we work closely with advanced students of composition. Psappha also works with composition students at other leading universities and conservatoires across the UK and internationally, most recently via a two week residency at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
Adults: Psappha offers original and highly creative team development workshops in which participants work with Psappha musicians to create a piece of music.
