Innovative digital resources are available online via the Orchestra’s website, whilst far-reaching ‘live’ education work enables people in London and regional residency areas including Bedford, Leicester, Basingstoke and beyond to access the orchestra’s excellent artistic resources in a variety of imaginative ways.
The live education programme opens access to the Orchestra through interactive workshops, masterclasses, projects and concerts. This activity enables a range of people, young and old, to work alongside top Philharmonia professionals, placing the Orchestra firmly at the heart of (often disadvantaged) communities. Opportunities for participants include learning to create and compose new music, developing performing skills, and learning about the Philharmonia Orchestra, its musicians and repertoire. The programme has successfully developed and sustained significant long term relationships with local individuals, families and organisations in the geographical areas in which the Philharmonia performs.
Philharmonia has a track record of providing innovative opportunities for people to experience and participate in classical music regardless of their background or prior experience, often using digital technology to present and explore the orchestra in new ways (see re-rite for an example).
