LONDON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
The London Philharmonic Orchestra is passionate in its belief that developing young peoples’ musical skills enriches the ways they think, feel and live their lives. Our Education & Community Programme currently reaches of 30,000 people annually via concerts, rehearsals, workshops and masterclasses. Although our work is primarily focussed in south east London, in recent seasons we have worked with children, young people and teachers in India, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand.
Our work In School includes our extensive range of concerts for schools which reach over 17,000 students a year from age 5 – 19. We also work with students studying music, supporting their composition and performance work. Our dedicated programme of work in Special Educational Needs schools runs across the year and we work with children with learning and physical disabilities as well as those with behavioural problems.
Out of school, we run Animate Orchestra and The Band – creative ensembles for 10-14 and 15-19 year olds. These groups encourage children from all musical backgrounds, including music technology, to come and create, rehearse and perform their own music. We also work regularly with adult learners in partnership with charities dealing with both homelessness and disability.
Nurturing the next generations of professional musicians is also central to our vision. Our Young Talent strand runs schemes for emerging professional instrumentalists and composers, allowing them unique access to our world class musicians and resources.
