Selector Reloaded

Did you know that our very own Selector Radio – broadcasting every Friday for more than 20 years – reaches four million listeners around the world every week? Its mission is simple, has always been the same and will always remain the same: bring the best new music to listeners, everywhere.

So, the mission has remained the same but, this week, Selector has a new production team behind it. Enter Audio Always based in Manchester, with new ambitions.

‘We’re very excited to welcome Audio Always as our new production team for Selector Radio,’ says Joel Mills (Director, Music here at the British Council). ‘Together with curator and presenter Jamz Supernova you can expect a delicious mix of UK music every week. As well as offering insights into the best of UK music, Selector will keep you bang up to date with what’s hot and going on in the UK sector.’

And what a week to have Audio Always join us. It’s only been a week since the a Mercury Prize was awarded to a jazz act for the first time ever. Ezra Collective scooped the award on 7 September 2023 for their album Where I’m Meant to Be. Selector’s presenter Jamz Supernova, who was on the Mercury Prize panel and presented the award on the night itself, speaks with journalist and fellow judge Tshepo Mokoena about the award and the shortlists of the past, present and future. You can also hear the performance on the night from Ezra Collective, as well as other live music from the event. Discover brand new artists from across the UK and Jamz delves into the First Look Mixtape, including a tip off from Jasmine Takhar, host of BBC Introducing on the Asian Network. Then there’s the Link Up with Mancunian rapper PRIDO and a guest mix from Welsh producer Art School Girlfriend.
