From 1999 to 2007 Fraser was Creative Director of the London Sinfonietta’s award winning education programme and is regularly invited to direct creative projects throughout the world. This aspect of his work complements and feeds off his own composing and performing and has led to his work being in high demand from Norway to Australia, Japan to Argentina often working in collaboration with the British Council.
Projects can be based on a variety of themes or starting points: his own music, traditional repertoire, contemporary music, song writing, improvisation or even projects inspired by other art forms or extra musical themes. They are aimed at developing the participants’ understanding and interest in music through their own composing, performing and collaboration. They focus on bringing people together through music, cultivating a unique experience of high quality music making, knowledge of ways to create music as well as celebrating the joy of making it.
Fraser has recently been running creative projects in collaboration with: Berlin Philharmonic, Ensemble Modern, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, BBC Proms, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic and the Southbank Centre.
Fraser regularly trains musicians and teachers to run creative, practical music-making projects for themselves, encouraging professionals to feel comfortable and creative in a wide variety of environments.
