Credit: João Octávio PeixotoTim is a composer and project leader with a specialty in large scale devised, collaborative and interactive music performance. His work encompasses a diverse range of contexts with a focus on the uniqueness of any given place and the people that occupy it. His practice typically involves collaborating with teams of local artists and musicians and working alongside them throughout the larger community to create multi-layered performances with a unique connection to the culture.
In the Guimarães, Portugal (European Capital of Culture 2012), he worked closely with 25 local musicians to create a symphony and anthem for the city that was performed by an ensemble of 300, and a chorus of 5000 in the Parque da Cidade.
In Gabala, Azerbaijan, he devised a new performance with children from Baku orphanage together with musicians from the Azerbaijani army (alumni of the orphanage) and musicians from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (resident orchestra) for the annual International Music Festival.
In Bedford, UK, he composed an hour-long song cycle bringing together members of the local Polish, Italian, Indian communities, a chorus of people with Alzheimer's, their families, a youth orchestra, a late starters' orchestra, a gospel group, a rock band, an amateur choral group and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
In all of his work, it is the identity of the people and the place that are the paramount considerations.
