Credit: Alick CotterillMusic for Youth is a unique organisation that exists to support and connect young musicians and their teachers and music leaders all over the UK, through performance based events in the form of regional and national festivals each year. These attract around 40,000 young musicians who perform to peers, the public, and to MFY’s professional Music Mentors, who provide each group with constructive feedback to assist their onward musical journey.

Credit: Emile HolbaMusical Bridges: transforming transition is a national initiative that helps schools improve their students’ transfer experiences into secondary school. With a focus on students’ engagement in music-making, the initiative brings primary and secondary music teachers together to co-develop lesson plans, curriculum materials and shared repertoire to create pathways which support their students’ musical progression into their secondary schools.

At its core, Musical Futures has a series of tried-and-tested pedagogical methods that have been proven to fully engage, motivate, and sustain student learning in music.

The orchestra’s concert work is concentrated around three venues. Its London home is St John’s Smith Square where it performs a monthly series, Dorchester Abbey where it has an autumn festival and concerts at Christmas and Easter, and a series of osj proms in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. The orchestra continues to perform all over the UK.

This covers the complete spectrum, from providing tuition and performance opportunities to the young musically gifted, to taking music into areas of economic and social deprivation which otherwise have no opportunity to experience any form of live music.
